The "Plott" kit for North Carolina is a tribute to the state dog of North Carolina. This fierce and loyal hound was originally bred to hunt bear in large packs. The subtle mountain design represents the Blue Ridge region of the Appalachian Mountains, where the Plott Hound was bred. Additionally, the design mimics the famous brindle coat of the Plott.
The logo includes the Appalachian Mountain with the Wright Flyer overhead, representing the first flight made at Kitty Hawk. The motto (Esse quam videri) on the back, means "To be, rather than to seem", is a statement held to be true about many North Carolinians.
